Recently, the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel—the key control project of the Urumqi–Yuli Expressway invested, built, and operated by CCCC—was certified by Guinness World Records as the the world's longest expressway tunnel, with a single-bore length of 22.13 kilometers. The accolade highlights CCCC's leading-edge technology and engineering prowess in constructing ultra-long tunnels under high-altitude, cold-region, and highly complex geological conditions.
Construction of the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel began in 2020, and full breakthrough was achieved in December 2024. The tunnel passes continuously through 16 geological fault zones and one alteration zone, with a maximum overburden exceeding 1,112.6 meters.
Once opened to traffic, the expressway will cut travel time between Urumqi and Korla from about seven hours to approximately 3.5 hours.
