Recently, the completion ceremony for Phase I of the University of Kara project, constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), was held in Kara, Togo. Faure Gnassingbe, Togo's president of the Council of Ministers, attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon.
As Togo's second public university, the University of Kara has two campuses. Covering a total area of 18,600 square meters, the newly completed campus consists of five main functional buildings, including three faculties, the university's administrative headquarters, and a student canteen. It is designed to support both academic activities and daily life for up to 6,000 students.
The project supports the university's upgrade toward a more modern, digital campus, while also effectively helping to boost local employment and drive economic growth. It has provided 880 direct jobs and about 2,200 indirect employment opportunities.
Togo's Minister of National Education Mama Omorou delivered a speech at the ceremony. He said the fully functional buildings do more than just expand physical space; they provide new meaning to teaching, scientific research, and social services.
Students also expressed excitement about the new campus environment. Roselyn, a 19-year-old English major, said, "These buildings are magnificent. The new campus gives me the confidence to step into the wider world. We will prove our worth through our actions."
