The development is expected to inject new momentum into local livelihoods and economic growth.

A single carriageway of the Otukpo section of the Keffi-Makurdi expressway project in Nigeria has recently been opened to traffic, marking a major milestone in project construction and bringing an end to nearly three decades of severe transportation constraints in the town. The development is expected to inject new momentum into local livelihoods and economic growth.
The Keffi-Makurdi expressway stretches across three states in southeastern Nigeria—Benue State, Kogi State, and Enugu State—with a total length of 250.615 kilometers. Once completed, the highway will significantly improve the regional transport network and open a key logistics corridor connecting multiple states.
The Otukpo section was previously an aging dirt road that had long hampered local travel and economic activity. The opening of one carriageway now removes the long-standing "last mile" bottleneck for goods transportation, greatly improving residents' access to commuting, healthcare and education while creating stronger links for agriculture, trade and other local industries.
In addition, the project has created employment opportunities for more than 2,000 local workers and provided skills training programs, helping boost incomes and support local community development.
