At Guinea's Simandou Port, dispatcher Li Yaguang learned Susu & French to bridge language gaps for a village road. When he gave orders in Susu, cheers erupted. "You learning our language shows respect," said a driver. The road connected villages & hearts.

At the Simandou Port project in Guinea, dispatcher Li Yaguang received a special mission: to build a road for a nearby village to travel. Faced with multiple challenges such as equipment scheduling difficulties, unfamiliar work processes among laborers, and language barriers, Li decided to start learning the local language from scratch.
From French to Susu, he asked workers for help during breaks and practiced the complex pronunciations repeatedly. When he first gave instructions in Susu, local driver Suleiman's eyes lit up, and cheers of joy erupted across the worksite. Suleiman remarked, "Many people only speak English or French. The fact that you are willing to learn our language shows true respect."
Over the next few months, Li's notebook accumulated nearly a thousand vocabulary words, and he could clearly arrange complex tasks using "worksite hybrid language." Young technicians also came to seek his advice.
When the road was completed, an elder from the village expressed solemn gratitude: "This road connects our village to the port, and it also connects our hearts." Li Yaguang replied in Susu, "We are brothers. We sweat together, and we are all great." This road, spanning just a few kilometers, was paved not only with asphalt but also with mutual respect—a friendship between China and Guinea that traveled from the tongue straight to the heart.
