Once operational, the Terminal 5 will significantly boost the port's cargo handling capacity and operational efficiency.

The Terminal 5 at the Autonomous Port of Cotonou, undertaken by CHEC, is progressing steadily.
The Port of Cotonou is a major international trade hub along the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, handling more than 90 percent of Benin's imports and exports and earning the nickname "the country's economic lung."
Located on the eastern side of the existing port area, the Terminal 5 project broke ground in July 2021. Its main works include the construction of two 100,000-tonne general-purpose berths, extension of the breakwater, shore protection, land reclamation, and dredging of the harbour basin. As of the end of June this year, 70 percent of the project had been completed, with progress advancing smoothly and in an orderly manner.
Once operational, the Terminal 5 will significantly boost the port's cargo handling capacity and operational efficiency, providing strong support for trade and economic growth in Benin and neighbouring countries.
