Recently, the "Yunqing" tunnel boring machine (TBM), manufactured by CCCC, successfully tunneled beneath the runway of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. This marks the first project in China to use the shield tunneling method to pass under an active, operational aircraft runway.
The "Yunqing" TBM has a diameter of 11.76 meters, a length of approximately 110 meters, and weighs around 3,000 tons.
Given the complex geological conditions beneath the runway, the tunneling process was particularly challenging and technically demanding. However, the "Yunqing" TBM ensured the excavation proceeded safely, quickly, and efficiently, advancing the project with success.
