The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project recently achieved a major milestone with the completion of the Gombak Tunnel and Bentong Tunnel 2.
The ECRL, often referred to as a "land bridge" connecting Malaysia's East and West coasts, is expected to significantly improve connectivity and drive economic growth along the eastern coast upon completion.
The Gombak Tunnel spans 959 meters, while the Bentong Tunnel 2 extends 1,409.62 meters. Both tunnels presented considerable challenges due to poor rock quality and complex geological conditions. The project team adopted a scientific construction strategy, utilizing a database and real-time information system to monitor geological changes and ensure that construction remained safe and efficient.
