Recently, the tunneling progress of the Genting Tunnel on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) in Malaysia has surpassed 15,000 meters. The Genting TBM 2 has drilled over 8,000 meters, while the Genting TBM 1 has advanced beyond 7,100 meters.
The ECRL is regarded as the "land bridge" connecting the east and west coasts of the Malay Peninsula, stretching 665 kilometers from Kota Bharu in the north, southward to Kuantan, and then westward to Port Klang. The Genting Tunnel, which cuts through a mountain range, spans 16.4 kilometers. It is a twin-bore single-line tunnel and one of the key projects along the ECRL route. Upon completion, it will be the longest tunnel in Southeast Asia.
