Belt and Road Initiative—CCCC facilitates connectivity for Solomon Islands

Near a scattering of once-isolated villages just 30 km from Honiara, capital of the Solomon Islands, metal pylons are being erected to provide modern connectivity for the South Pacific country.

Located 30 kilometers from the capital of the Solomon Islands, Honiara, metal pylons are being erected to provide modern connectivity, linking more locals to the world. 
This is part of the China-aided Solomon Islands National Broadband Infrastructure Project, undertaken by CHEC, a subsidiary of CCCC. The project aims to construct 161 3G/4G wireless communication base stations across nine provinces in the Solomon Islands. Once completed, the project will significantly enhance the country's information and communication infrastructure.

The project commenced in August 2023, with the first telecom tower connected in March this year in Sali village of Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. The project's implementation has instilled hope and excitement among the local residents for a brighter future.
Bruce, a 20-year-old from Sali Village, eagerly shows off his new mobile phone said that he can see a more beautiful world starting tomorrow.
Ben Dabughau, 34, a worker in a palm plantation near Sali village, said they are all happy about the construction of the base station and look forward to seeing the vast world beyond this palm plantation.
A teacher in the Russell Islands, where a base station is set to be built, said she really look forward to the completion of the base station earlier and it will allow students to access more new knowledge.

The project has also provided training in telecommunications engineering to a local workforce, creating over 3,000 jobs. Among them is Philsworth Avui, a young local who has grown from a recent university graduate to an experienced project manager. He said, Chinese personnel establish communication channels and aid in the economic development here. They, too, grow through this process.
