Since its opening, the bridge has significantly improved local transportation and spurred local economic development.

Recently, over five years after its inauguration, the Maldives-China Friendship Bridge has initiated a follow-up maintenance project, executed by CCCC, with a duration of 36 months. The project focuses on the bridge's initial repair and preventive maintenance, the improvement of maintenance files, bridge inspection and assessment, daily maintenance, and training of maintenance technicians from the Maldives.
Constructed by CCCC, the Maldives-China Friendship Bridge spans the sea between the capital city of Malé and Hulhumalé island, and was officially opened on August 30, 2018. Overcoming global challenges such as complex coral reef geology, deep water long-period waves, and a highly corrosive environment due to high temperatures and salinity, the CCCC team fulfilled the Maldivian people's long-held dream of building this bridge. Since its opening, the bridge has significantly improved local transportation and spurred economic development in Malé.
