At the entrance of the primary school in Papua New Guinea, safety officer Liu Shunnian from the project department of the rehabilitation of the 57 km of the Simbu section of the Highlands Highway was warmly welcomed by the students.
This reception was a result of his efforts to preserve the classrooms for the children. The original construction plan for the drainage ditch in the project required the demolition of houses on the school's roadside. However, due to the demolition of some classrooms, it would not be feasible to rebuild them in the short term, leading to nearly a hundred children losing access to education. Upon learning of the situation, Liu Shunnian firmly believed, "Education is equally important as engineering; we must find a way to preserve the classrooms for the children."
Ultimately, after conducting research, the project department decided to change the design by using culverts instead of the drainage ditch. The school's principal thanked CCCC for preserving the classrooms for our children.
In addition, given that the construction site is close to the school, for the safety of the children, Liu also taught the children a traffic safety lesson.
After class, the children presented Liu with a hand-drawn picture book. Viewing these precious artworks, Liu couldn't hide his excitement and said that this is the most precious gift he has ever received.
