As the largest cross-basin water transfer project under construction in China, it is expected to become the second north-south water transport artery after the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
With a total area of 70,600 square kilometers and a total length of 723 km, the water diversion project is expected to benefit more than 50 million people. The trial operation of the phase I project will create a golden waterway for inland shipping, and help the water flow and ecological restoration of the Chaohu Lake area in Anhui Province.
