Dalian Bay Undersea Tunnel is another immersed tunnel project with high technical requirements, complex construction environment and high environmental requirements after the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Its total length of the immersed section is 3,035 meters, consisting of 18 pipe sections and 1 final joint. 1 pipe section is 180 meters long and weighs about 60,000 tons. It is designed as an urban expressway and the design service life is 100 years.
It is worth mentioning that the final joint adopted a sectional pipe jacking method, which was the first of its kind in China, and the installation accuracy was controlled within 3 millimeters. Up to now, the project has applied for 197 patents, including 77 invention patents, and 2 technological achievements reached the international advanced level.
The successful completion of the project fully demonstrates China's technology and coordination capability in immersed tunnel construction, further consolidating China's leading position in world's cross-sea immersed tunnel construction.
After the completion of Dalian Bay Undersea Tunnel, it will add a new expressway from the northern and southern parts of Dalian City, effectively alleviating traffic congestion in the urban area during peak hours and promoting the integration of the two sides of Dalian Bay.
