Recently, the commercial port of Jazan Economic City in Saudi Arabia, constructed by CRBC, a subsidiary of CCCC, held an opening ceremony and was put into operation. The ceremony was attended by Prince Muhammad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Jazan, Khalid A. The port is located 80 kilometers from Jazan, the capital of Jazan Province, on offshore of the Red Sea, and is an important part of Jazan Economic City. It has four commercial berths, including a 540-meter-long container berth and a 350-meter-long ore berth. The container berth can berth 15,500 standard container vessels with a maximum capacity of 160,000 tons, and the ore berth can berth 100,000 tons bulk carriers.
The project includes planning, designing, construction, investment and operation as well as designing, manufacturing and installation and commissioning of port equipment, driving the implementation of Chinese standards, Chinese technology and Chinese equipment in the field of port construction in Saudi Arabia. The construction was completed in 2019. In 2020, CRBC and Hutchison Whampoa formed a consortium to obtain the 15-year operation right of the first phase of the port.
The commercial port will facilitate the development of industrial industries in Jazan Economic City, make the southwestern region of Saudi Arabia have its first modern port, and effectively facilitate economic and social development of Jazan Province and the southwestern region of Saudi Arabia.
