On May 27, Wenzhou's Oujiang Beikou Bridge, the world's first three-tower four-span double-decked steel truss suspension bridge built by CCCC, was opened to traffic, marking the completion of the national highway from Ningbo to Dongguan, the main coastal traffic artery of China.
The bridge is 7,913 meters long, of which the main bridge across the Ou River is 2090 meters long. The upper deck is the 6-lane Yongguan Expressway, and the lower deck is the 6-lane highway of National Highway G228. After opening to traffic, the bridge can provide a daily capacity of 107,000 vehicles.
As the world's first three-tower four-span double-decked steel truss suspension bridge, the Oujiang Beikou Bridge is currently one of the most technically difficult and complex bridges in China and the world. The bridge includes the south anchor, south tower, middle tower, north tower, north anchor, main cable and main beam and other main structure. The average height of three main towers is 139 meters. Each main cable consists of 169 steel wires, and the total length of the wires can circle the earth two rounds.
The bridge also created the world's first high stiffness concrete tower of a multi-tower span suspension bridge, the world's first ultra-large sinkhole foundation at an estuary with strong tide and silt clay, the cable-loaded crane with world's largest lifting weight capacity and many other world records.
On December 30, 2021, the bridge was successfully closed up, and on January 14, 2022, the main construction of the bridge was completed, and on May 9, 2022, the load test of the main bridge was completed.
The opening of the bridge will shorten the drive time from Yueqing City, Wenzhou to Longwan International Airport from more than 1 hour to 15 minutes. It is of great importance to improving the national highway network and the capacity of the eastern coastal highways, and to further strengthening the communication among the Yangtze River Delta, the west coast of the Taiwan Strait and the Pearl River Delta region, and to building the Wenzhou metropolitan area.
