Recently, with the installation of the last surface mesh consisting of two layers of galvanized steel wire mesh, the construction of the catwalk of the Lingdingyang Bridge in the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, which was co-built by CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company LTD, has been completed. The highest point of the catwalk is 270 meters above the sea, making it the world's highest sea catwalk.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is a cross-sea cluster project integrating "bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater communication", with a total length of about 24 kilometers. Among them, the Lingdingyang Bridge has a main span of 1666 meters and is the world's largest mid-sea steel box girder suspension bridge. The east and west main towers of the bridge are 270 meters high, which are currently the highest sea bridge towers in the world.
The catwalk is a linear temporary construction access road that is erected under the main cable and parallel to the main cable during the construction of the suspension bridge. There are two catwalks under the main cable on the left and right sides of the bridge to connect the east and west main towers. There are 17 horizontal passages between the two catwalks, and the passages connect the catwalks into a whole, and thus become the construction platform of the upper structure of the bridge.

In order to ensure the stability and durability of the structure, the project team carried out wind tunnel tests during the design of the catwalk to ensure the static safety of the catwalk structure. In addition, the project adopts the method of dragging from the top of the tower to the lower part to gradually install the surface net to strengthen the safety protection, and establish double insurance by adding safety pins to the important components of the catwalk and installing safety ropes. By doing such, the catwalk construction and the navigation of ships do not affect each other.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is another major transportation artery connecting the east and west sides of the Pearl River Estuary for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area after the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Guangzhou Nansha Bridge. After completion, the journey from Shenzhen to Zhongshan will be shortened from the original two hours to 20 minutes, and the project will promote the economic and transportation integration and transformation and upgrading of the Pearl River Delta.
