The launching ceremony of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) Genting Tunnel of Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link project undertaken by CCCC was held on April 1, which was another key step towards the official excavation of the TBM Genting Tunnel.
The Genting Tunnel is a control engineering project of the ECRL project, with a total length of 16.39 kilometers. Once completed, it will become the longest tunnel in Southeast Asia. The Genting Tunnel will be constructed with two open-type TBMs, which is the first tunnel in Malaysia to be constructed with TBMs.
The Genting No. 1, independently developed and designed by CCCC, is a TBM with the largest diameter exported from China to overseas and represents the world's advanced level. It can improve work efficiency by two to three times. The diameter of the TBM cutter is 8.98 meters, and weighs 1,600 tons.
After completion, the ECRL project will become a main transportation line between the east and west coasts of Malaysia, which can effectively promote the regional development of Malaysia and enhance the competitiveness of local industries. It will have a significant impact and demonstration effect in Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and the world at large.
