Recently, the excavation mileage of the exit end of Tianshan Shengli tunnel, a part of Urumqi-Yuli highway package PPP project undertaken by CCCG, exceeded 5,000 meters.

The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, with a total length of 22.1 kilometers, is the longest highway tunnel under construction in the world, and also a typical super-long highway tunnel in alpine and high-altitude area among expressways under construction in China. The tunnel adopts the construction method of "three holes + four shafts", and takes TBM’s advantage in the middle service tunnel to quickly excavate the tunnel to open up auxiliary working faces for double main tunnels and excavate the long tunnel in a short time. During the excavation peak, the project team could work at six working faces of the main tunnel at the same time, which can save about 20 months of construction period compared with the conventional inclined shaft auxiliary construction. Such technology is the first application in the domestic highway tunnel construction.
After the project is completed and opened to traffic, the travel time between Urumqi and Yuli will be shortened from seven hours to three hours. It will completely break through the transportation barriers between the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, promote the construction of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Xinjiang, and propel the economic and social development of the northern and southern regions of Xinjiang as well as advantageous resource development in the region.
