The celebration for the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and China and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Rubber-Rice Pact was held at the Port City Yacht Marina on January 9, attended by Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
During the event the Port City Yacht Marina was declared open to the public, marking the fact Sri Lankan people will be able to get close to experience the charm of the only yacht marina in Colombo, and get a better understanding of the China-Sri Lanka friendship and fruitful results of the China-Sri Lanka cooperation from the photo exhibition.
Port City Colombo, invested, built and operated by CHEC, is the largest foreign direct investment project in Sri Lanka and a "city of the future" by the Indian Ocean. It aims to build a high-end urban complex in South Asia, by reclaiming 269 hectares of land from the sea and with a total construction area of more than 5.7 million square meters. It is expected to attract over $15 billion of investment and create more than 83,000 local job opportunities. The project was rated by the Forbes Magazine as one of the "5 New Cities That Are Set To Shake Up The Future".
