The completion ceremony of the CCCC-contracted New Kipevu Oil Terminal in Mombasa, Kenya was held on January 6 local time, and was attended by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
President Kenyatta expressed his gratitude to the Chinese people, saying that the smooth implementation of various infrastructure projects has strongly promoted the economic and social development of Kenya.
Wang Yi extended warm congratulations to Kenya on the completion of another major infrastructure project that will benefit the country and the region. He stressed that what we witness here today is the everlasting sincere friendship between China and Africa, and the bright prospect of China and Africa jointly pursuing modernization.
The Mombasa oil terminal is highly technical and difficult to construct. It adopted a world-class offshore platform to effectively protect the marine environment and create a large number of jobs and business opportunities for local people, Wang Yi noted.
The new oil terminal project involves building four offshore berths and pipelines, capable of handling the importation and exportation of crude oil, heavy fuel oil, aviation fuel, petrol and diesel. The project is Kenya’s first modern oil and gas handling terminal. It will greatly enhance the oil and gas transfer capacity of the Port of Mombasa, reduce the refined oil price in Kenya, and inject strong impetus into the economic development of Kenya and the entire East Africa region.
