On December 20, the E1 section of cross-river tunnel along the East-West Axis of Xiangyang, Hubei Province, co-invested and undertaken by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., witnessed its immersion installation. After the installation, the 660-meter immersed tube tunnel in the east branch of Han River was connected.
The cross-river tunnel along the East-West Axis of Xiangyang has a total length of 5.4 kilometers, of which two immersed tube tunnels crossing the Han River are 1011 meters long. The tunnel, composing of six immersed tubes of 660 meters in the east branch of Han River and four immersed tubes of 351 meters in the west branch, is currently the largest inland river immersed tube tunnel in China as a whole, and the first inland river immersed tube tunnel in Central China. The E1 section, the largest section of all tube sections, has a total length of 125.5 meters and weighs approximately 34,000 tons.
The project always attaches great importance to technological innovation during the construction process. Starting from key technologies, core equipment, special materials, intelligent construction and other fields, the project has created multiple "firsts". Among them, a new domestically-made GINA waterstop was adopted for the first time in the project. It is also China's first project to realize the localization of the entire industrial chain for immersed tube tunnel construction. The project is expected to be completed in 2022. After completion, it will improve the traffic conditions in the new and old towns of Xiangyang and provide more convenience for local people.
