On October 31, the section E2 pipe section in Yuliangzhou section of Xiangyang East-west Axis project, the first immersed tunnel in Central China constructed by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company Ltd.(SHEC), was successfully installed to a depth of 23 meters at the bottom of Han River and accurately docked with E3 pipe section, halfway through the successful sinking operation of the project.
The project starts from the Xiang(yang)–Jing(zhou) Highway in the west and connects to Dongjin Toll Station, with a total length of 26.3 kilometers. Among them, the Yuliangzhou section starts from the east side of Daqing East Road and ends at the west side of Zongsi Road, crossing the Han River twice, with a total length of 5.4 kilometers. It is a two-way 6-lane expressway, with a design speed of 60 kilometers per hour.
After the sinking operation, a total of 5 pipe sections have been completed, and the main tunnel of the project is expected to be completed in October 2022. Upon completion, the project will improve the traffic around Xiangyang and help the city build a "one center-four cities" layout.
