Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport officially went into operation

The starfish-shaped Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport officially went into operation in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province on Aug. 12. The Qingdao New Airport High-Speed Connecting Line, partly built by CCCC as a major transport support project for the airport, also came into service that day. The 9.8-km connecting line is composed of three traffic systems including expressways, viaduct expressways and ground roads.

The Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is Shandong’s first 4F-class airport — meaning it’s big enough to accommodate the world’s largest commercial aircraft. It is expected to be able to handle an annual passenger throughput of 35 million, a cargo throughput of 500,000 tons, and 300,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings by 2025. The airport will provide strong airline network support for turning Qingdao into an international metropolis.
