Recently, the winners of the 21st Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize were announced, with 19 CCCC-involved projects receiving the honor, including six bridge projects, five highway projects, and others in water transport, municipal infrastructure and other fields.

Established in 1999 by the China Civil Engineering Society and the Beijing Zhantianyou Development Foundation for Science and Technology, the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize has become the highest honor for technological innovation in China's civil engineering sector. So far, 140 CCCC-involved projects have received the award.
Let's take a look at the major projects recognized this time.

The National Alpine Skiing Center in Yanqing district, Beijing, has ski runs totaling about 23.1 kilometers in length, with a maximum vertical drop of 925 meters. It hosted alpine skiing competitions at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge: With a total length of 55 kilometers, it is the world's longest sea-crossing bridge to date.

The Second Humen Bridge, also known as the Nansha Bridge in Guangdong Province, is another world-class bridge project in the Pearl River Delta following the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge is a key project for the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang High-speed Railway crossing the Yangtze River. It fills gaps as the world's first high-speed railway suspension bridge and China's first road-rail suspension bridge.

The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge has a total length of 11.072 kilometers and is the world's first road-rail cable-stayed bridge with a span exceeding 1,000 meters.

The Jiaxing-Shaoxing Cross-River Bridge is the world's longest multi-tower steel box girder cable-stayed bridge. It has also won awards including the Gustav Lindenthal Medal from the International Bridge Conference (IBC), the Global Road Achievement Award from the International Road Federation (IRF), and the prestigious Project Award from the FIDIC (Fédération Internationale Des Ingénieurs-Conseils).

The 5th Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is about 10.335 kilometers long, with a 4,130-meter-long main bridge. It is the world's first three-tower cable-stayed bridge with an all-steel-concrete composite structure. The bridge has won awards including the Outstanding Structure Award from the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), the ENR Global Best Projects Award and the Global Road Achievement Award (GRAA).

The Ya'an-Kangding Expressway is about 134.46 kilometers long. After opening, it has reduced travel time between Ya'an and Kangding from six hours to two hours.

The Zhangzhou Tianbao to Longyan Jiaoyang Expressway Expansion Project in Fujian Province is about 127.5 kilometers long. The project passes through complex terrain and diverse geological conditions, earning the area the name "geological museum."

The Hebei section of the Yanqing-Chongli Expressway is about 82 kilometers long and served as a major transportation support project for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Yunfu to Maoming Expressway is 129.82 kilometers long. Opened on June 11, 2021, it has further improved transport capacity in mountainous areas of western Guangdong.

No.1 National Highway in the Republic of Congo is 580 kilometers long, running from the port city of Pointe-Noire in the south to the capital Brazzaville in the north. After opening, travel time between the two cities was reduced from one week to six hours.

The first phase of Xiamen Metro Line 1 is 30.3 kilometers long and is known as the "most beautiful sea-view metro."

The Pilot Project of Ecological Protection and Restoration in Ulansuhai Nur, integrating mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes and grasslands, is a model for ecological governance.

The Municipal Roads and Integrated Utility Network Project in the Rongdong Area of Xiong'an New Area uses BIM-based digital technology to integrate multiple pipelines into shared utility corridors, providing a practical example for new urban underground infrastructure development.

The Taozi Bay Wastewater, Reclaimed Water and Sludge Circular Economy Demonstration Project in Yantai is a comprehensive environmental protection project that integrates wastewater treatment, reclaimed water utilization and sludge resource recovery. It has a total wastewater treatment capacity of 470,000 cubic meters per day.

The Intelligent Container Terminal Project of the Section C Terminal in the Beijiang Port Area of Tianjin Port features three intelligent container berths and a designed annual handling capacity of 2.5 million TEUs. It is the world's first smart zero-carbon terminal, providing a replicable model for smart port development worldwide.

The Pan-Asia Terminal Project in the Qianwan Port Area of Qingdao Port includes two automated 100,000-tonne-class container berths, with a land area of about 610,000 square meters. It provides strong support for the rapid growth of Qingdao Port's container throughput.
