At Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, CCCC staff gathered to welcome home Teklu Kai Tesfaye, an 8-year-old Ethiopian contestant who had returned with honors from the inaugural Spelling Bee World Cup in Shanghai, China.

With CCCC's support, the young boy competed alongside some of the world's top young spellers in the finals. Thanks to his determination and perseverance, he placed sixth in the primary and junior division, showcasing the talent of African youth on the international stage while serving as a vivid example of educational exchange between China and Africa.

The Spelling Bee World Cup, launched by Spelling Bee of China, held its inaugural competition in Shanghai on July 19, 2026. The event brought together young contestants from more than 20 countries across Asia, North America, and Africa.

Tesfaye secured his place at the inaugural Spelling Bee World Cup after delivering outstanding performances in national competitions in Ethiopia and the African regional championship. However, the cost of traveling overseas to compete was beyond his family's means. After learning of his situation, CCCC stepped in without hesitation, helping the young contestant turn his dream into reality.

When Tesfaye spotted CCCC staff members waiting for him at the airport, he immediately expressed his heartfelt gratitude: "Thank you, CCCC, for everything you've done for me." Tesfaye's mother was equally touched. She said the journey to China had brought her son not only medals and recognition, but also a firsthand experience of the warmth and kindness of the Chinese people.
