At the Structural Engineering International Conference recently hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), CCCC engineer Cheng Xiaohu received the 2026 Moisseiff Award for his groundbreaking contributions to the theory of the active arch effect in tunneling.
At the Structural Engineering International Conference recently hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), CCCC engineer Cheng Xiaohu received the 2026 Moisseiff Award for his groundbreaking contributions to the theory of the active arch effect in tunneling. The award marks the first time since its establishment in 1947 that the honor has been bestowed on an engineer based in China.

Cheng's research resolved a fundamental theoretical challenge that had perplexed the global tunneling community for nearly 80 years.
The Moisseiff Award is among the most prestigious international awards for scholarly papers in structural engineering. With exceptionally rigorous selection criteria, it is awarded to no more than one achievement each year.
