A opening ceremony was recently held for the Shebelle Resort in Ethiopia, built by China CCCC and other companies. The event was attended by Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia; Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of Djibouti; and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia.
The resort is located in Jijiga, in Ethiopia's Somali State, near the borders with Djibouti and Somalia. The project covers 385 hectares and includes a resort complex with a total floor area of 7,997.65 square meters, as well as 15.6 kilometers of internal roads.
Drawing on experience gained from the Wenchi Dendi (WD) ecotourism road project in Ethiopia, the development integrates building and landscape design. It is expected to support economic complementarity in East Africa and contribute to tourism growth and cross-border trade.
In remarks at the ceremony, Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, thanked CCCC for its contribution to Ethiopia's tourism development, describing the resort as an important piece of tourism infrastructure that will help stimulate related industries and generate sustained economic and social benefits.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, said the completion of the resort would create local employment opportunities and promote regional connectivity, serving as a platform for cross-border exchanges and cultural interaction between Somalia and Ethiopia.
Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of Djibouti, said Djibouti's ports would enhance support for Ethiopia's international logistics needs, contributing to further regional integration in East Africa.
