Recently, the Danjiang Xiaosanxia Grand Bridge on the Mianchi-Xichuan Expressway, constructed by CCCC, officially opens to traffic. This achievement eliminates the long-standing "last kilometer" transportation bottleneck between Henan and Hubei provinces.
Spanning 919 meters in total length with a main span of 536 meters, the cable-stayed bridge features towers rising 155 meters on the north bank and 206 meters on the south bank. It now stands as the longest-span cable-stayed bridge in Henan Province.
Situated within a complex karst geological formation characterized by an extensive network of underground tunnels, the project encountered challenging subsurface conditions. Environmental preservation was prioritized throughout construction, particularly at the Baxian Tunnel, which traverses a large karst cavity measuring approximately 2,000 cubic meters. To minimize ecological impact, the construction team abandoned conventional blasting techniques and instead implemented an integrated approach combining controlled blasting with excavation, successfully completing high-risk sections with reduced environmental disturbance.
The opening of the bridge signifies more than the completion of a critical infrastructure project; it enhances regional connectivity by alleviating longstanding transportation constraints and improving mobility for nearly three million residents in the reservoir area.
With the bridge now operational, direct travel time between Danjiangkou City in Hubei Province and Xichuan County in Henan Province has been reduced to one hour. Enhanced logistics capabilities have facilitated broader market access for Xichuan's citrus products, transforming local agricultural output into sustainable economic benefits for the region.
