Kenya's Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway and its contributions to green development attracted wide attention and high praise from participants at the event.

Recently, on the occasion of the Seventh United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) held in Nairobi, Kenya, Concilia Owire, one of Kenya's first female locomotive drivers and assistant manager at Locomotive & Rolling Stock Department of Afristar, was invited to attend a thematic side event titled "Improving Global Environmental Governance and Jointly Building a Clean and Beautiful World."
In her keynote speech, Concilia emphasized that the Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway is a model piece of infrastructure that successfully balances economic development and environmental protection. By facilitating the shift of passenger and freight transport in Kenya from road to rail, the railway has significantly reduced carbon emissions and road congestion, thereby supporting climate action. In addition, wildlife corridors, overpasses, and protective fencing along the railway ensure that animals can move safely and undisturbed near Tsavo National Park and Nairobi National Park.
