Recently, the 108.1-kilometer Novi Sad–Subotica section of the Hungary–Serbia Railway was completed and opened to traffic, marking the full operation of the railway's Serbian section. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić attended the inauguration ceremony.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić noted that the Hungary–Serbia Railway holds great significance for Serbia. The project promotes regional economic integration, drives balanced national development and economic prosperity, and significantly enhances Serbia's position as a key transportation hub linking the Balkans with Central Europe.
The Hungary–Serbia Railway connects Budapest, the capital of Hungary, with Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, spanning a total length of 341.7 kilometers—of which 183.1 kilometers lie within Serbia, designed for a maximum speed of 200 km/h, and 158.6 kilometers in Hungary, designed for 160 km/h. The section in Serbia comprises three segments: Belgrade–Stara Pazova, Stara Pazova–Novi Sad, and Novi Sad–Subotica. The first two sections entered operation in March 2022.
With the opening of the entire Serbian section, travel time between Belgrade and the border city of Subotica has been reduced from over five hours to as little as one hour and nineteen minutes. The project has greatly improved passenger capacity, transport efficiency, and service quality, while facilitating travel, tourism development, and urbanization along the route.
