The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, undertaken by CCCC, has been awarded the gold award at the ESG Positive Impact Awards 2024 in the category of Sustainable Products & Services.
Recognized as a national benchmark for sustainable infrastructure development, the ECRL project has achieved remarkable results in design innovation, carbon reduction, and ecological conservation. The prestigious national award affirms the project's outstanding performance in advancing sustainability.
CCCC has integrated the philosophy of green development throughout the railway's entire lifecycle, striving to build a modern and environmentally friendly rail corridor for Malaysia.
In the design phase, the project team optimized the route to minimize intrusions into forest reserves. Over 20 wildlife crossings and culverts have been incorporated along the route to protect native animal species.
During construction, the project has emphasized green technologies. Notably, in building the Genting Tunnel—the longest railway tunnel in Southeast Asia—advanced tunnel boring machines Genting TBM 1 and Genting TBM 2 were deployed to minimize environmental impact on the surrounding mountains.
In addition, the project team places strong emphasis on ESG practices, actively promoting environmental awareness and inspiring public engagement in sustainability. A series of outreach activities have been organized, including events on the Malaysia Environmental Day, the mangrove restoration program and the Klang River tour for raising environmental awareness.
