The first train for Bogota Metro Line 1, contracted by CHEC, officially rolled off the production line and was dispatched from Changchun, China, marking a major milestone in the project's progress.
The Mayor of Bogota participated in the ceremony via video link, stating that this moment represents a historic milestone and the realization of the city's 80-year dream of building a metro system.
The train features a six-car trainsets and is equipped with GOA4-grade fully automated, driverless operation. It meets international standards in safety, capacity, smart technology, and passenger comfort. The train's exterior design draws inspiration from Colombia's rich history, employing biomimicry to capture the sleek and powerful contours of the Andean condor. It has been named "Gaby" after a hawk rescued by the project team, symbolizing a commitment to green development and harmonious coexistence with nature.
The project is the first metro line in the Colombian capital. Spanning 23.86 kilometers, the project includes 16 stations and the procurement of 30 trains. Once completed, it will serve as the backbone of Bogota's public transportation system, providing millions with fast, comfortable, and environmentally friendly mobility—significantly contributing to the city's economic and social development.
