In November 2024, the Chancay port in Peru, independently designed and constructed by CCCC and equipped with a full set of port machinery from CCCC, was officially opened. As the first smart port in South America, Chancay port is designed with an initial annual throughput capacity of 1 million TEUs, 6 million tons of bulk cargo, and 160,000 vehicles.
During the construction of the port, CCCC introduced numerous innovative processes, equipment, and materials, contributing to the creation of a smart, green logistics hub for Latin America and a gateway port to the Pacific.
Peru, known as a dreamland for surfers, presents immense challenges for the construction process due to its powerful waves, especially in the installation of dock piles. To successfully complete the installation of 1,133 steel pipe piles for the four berths, the CCCC team developed an innovative "piling machine"—the world's first intelligent ultra-large self-moving piling platform. This platform ensures precise positioning and stable installation of steel pipe piles.
Comprising 24 major components and over 10,000 parts, this piling platform can drive seven piles simultaneously at a single work station.

Inspired by this platform, the team installed tracks on the pile foundations and developed a remote-controlled piling cart to resolve the issue of transporting steel pipe piles, greatly improving transportation efficiency.
These innovations not only enhanced construction efficiency but also helped achieve the project's zero pollution goal.
The modern, automated port relies on state-of-the-art port machinery. ZPMC supplied Chancay port with six quay cranes, 15 rail-mounted gantry cranes, and six multi-purpose rubber-tyred gantry cranes, all equipped with strong seismic resistance capabilities. These advanced machines increase operational efficiency and reduce manual labor.
With these advanced Chinese-made port machines, Chancay port is set to become a bustling trade hub, contributing to economic prosperity in the region.
The project is located near the Chancay Wetland, an important bird habitat, and the surrounding marine area is home to seals, penguins, and other marine animals. Balancing the efficient construction of the port with the protection of the local ecosystem was a key focus from the start.
The project team prioritized marine and wetland ecosystem protection as well as green development philosophy throughout every phase of construction. An environmental protection team was established to focus on wetland conservation, animal rescue and promote environmental awareness.
In early 2022, a ship leaked oil during unloading crude oil, and the project team quickly rescued trapped seabirds. Since the project began, the team has rescued two Peruvian penguins, seven seals, and a variety of seabirds and marine life.
From a high vantage point, Chancay port’s waters shimmer, with seals and penguins lounging on the beach, while the adjacent Chancay Wetlands flourish with greenery and waterfowl. The scene is a testament to the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
