Recently, the newly constructed southern container yard at the port of Aiwo, built by CHEC, a subsidiary of CCCC, was officially handed over to the Nauru Maritime and Port Authority (NMPA). The ceremony was attended by Nauru's Minister Assisting the President and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Lionel Aingimea, and the director of NMPA.
Lionel Aingimea emphasized that this milestone represents a critical step in Nauru's development journey, marking the beginning of a new era for the nation's port infrastructure. He highlighted that the completion of this facility will create new opportunities for Nauru's commercial growth.
The project includes the construction of a 20,000-ton berth, dredging of the port basin, development of roadways and land-based yards, building construction, upgrades to the national desalination facility, and other related infrastructure.
The establishment of the southern container yard symbolizes a significant leap forward in Nauru's maritime infrastructure. Once operational, it is expected to significantly enhance the port's efficiency and cargo handling capacity, further driving Nauru's economic growth.
