Recently, the Phase 2 of the MRT Line 2 in Kuala Lumpur, built by CHEC, a subsidiary of CCCC, was opened, marking the full operation of the MRT Line 2. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim attended the opening ceremony and took a test ride. Malaysian Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook, was also present at the ceremony.
The MRT Line 2 has a total length of 57.7 kilometers, with 38.7 kilometers of elevated sections and 13.5 kilometers of underground sections, and 36 stations (9 underground stations and 27 elevated stations). The project was divided into two phases. The recently opened phase 2 project stretches from Kampung Batu to Putrajaya Sentral, covering 39.7 kilometers. The phase 1 project, which runs from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu for 18 kilometers, had already started operation on June 16, 2022.
CCCC undertook the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of 52.2 kilometers of the entire line, as well as the vehicle depot and parking lots. The company also handled the rail transportation for the entire line's four electrical system materials and the design and procurement of six types of specialized maintenance vehicles, along with three underground stations and a section of shield tunnel with double tracks.
The MRT Line 2 serves as the "artery" for the Greater Kuala Lumpur's rail transit network, running from north to south. Once operational, it will enable more than 2 million residents along the line to enjoy a "half-hour living circle", significantly alleviating local traffic congestion and residents' travel difficulties. The project will be free for all passengers until the end of March.
