Jamaican Prime Minister attends opening ceremony of the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project constructed by CHEC, a subsidiary of CCCC.

Recently, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project constructed by CHEC, a subsidiary of CCCC. The ceremony was attended by 60 people including Horace Chang, Deputy Prime Minister of Jamaica, Chen Daojiang, Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, representatives of CCCC, and Jamaican government ministers and parliamentarians.
Prime Minister Holness firstly thanked Chinese enterprises for their long-standing help and support for Jamaica's infrastructure construction. He said that the construction of the project is of great significance, effectively alleviating the traffic congestion in Montego Bay and the areas along the route. It is also conducive to boosting Jamaican economy, increasing employment, speeding up post-epidemic recovery and promoting economic and social transformation. In addition, it will also greatly boost the development of tourism, enhance people's livelihood and create important opportunities for the economic and social development of Jamaica.
Ambassador Chen Daojiang said that the project is not only a road for people to improve the infrastructure level in the west, but also a road to prosperity to promote the economic and social development of Jamaica, and a "hand-in-hand road" to symbolizing the friendship between China and Jamaica.
In his speech, the representative of CCCC pointed out that the project will cooperate with the Human Employment and Resource Training (HEART) and the University of the West Indies in to train a large number of professional talents for Jamaica. The company will build a high-quality modern road and strengthen cooperation with Jamaica in the fields of housing construction, urban water supply, sewage treatment, waste treatment and green electricity.
During the opening ceremony, the project team and HEART, the official training institution of Jamaica, signed the agreement for the training.
Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica, and the total length of the project is about 27.2 km. After completion, the project will form a ring road with the coastal A1 highway in Montego Bay, upgrading of the coastal A1 highway and even the whole national road network, promoting the development of industry, agriculture and tourism of the areas along the route, and strongly alleviating the traffic congestion on the A1.
