Recently, Premier Li Keqiang and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic exchanged congratulatory messagesto celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. In his messages, Premier Li said such mutually beneficial projects as the Peljesac Bridgesetfine examples for cooperation between China and Croatia, as well as between China and Europe.
The Peljesac Bridge project is the first large-scale infrastructure project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise funded by EU funds, which is of great significance to deepening the tripartite cooperation between China, Croatia and Europe.
The total length of the Peljesac Bridge is 3.94 kilometers, of which the bridge is 2,440 meters long. The main bridge is a six-tower central single-cable-plane steel box girder and low-tower cable-stayed bridge.
Since the start of construction in 2018, the bridge has attracted great attention from all walks of life. Chinese Premier and Croatian Prime Minister have personally inspected the construction site and jointly pressed a button to start the piling of the main pier. Croatian Prime Minister and cabinet members have visited the site more than ten times. The bridge has become a landmark of great concern in Croatia and the European Union.
During the construction, the CCCC construction team has overcame the pressure brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, and insisted on both controlling the pandemic and promoting production. The team has successively overcome technical problems such as the construction of deep-water rock-socketed super-long diameter steel pipe piles, the mass concrete pouring for the high-pile caps, the manufacture of EXC4 steel box girder and the assembly construction, and advanced the goal of each node with high quality and standards. The bridge was fully connected in July 2021 and will be completed and opened to traffic this year.
After the bridge is completed, the long-cherished wish of the Croatian people to connect Croatia's northern and the southern parts will be realized, and it will promote the local economic development and personnel exchanges.
