Recently, the International Bridge Conference (IBC) announced the 2023 IBC Award Winners. The Pelješac Bridge in Croatia undertaken by CRBC, a subsidiary of CCCC, won the 40th Gustav Lindenthal Medal.
The IBC is an academic conference sponsored by the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania, with extensive clout in the global bridge community. Established in 1988, the IBC is held annually and is hailed as the “Nobel Prize” in the bridge industry. Among its seven awards, the Gustav Lindenthal Medal is awarded to bridges with a single, recent outstanding achievement in bridge engineering demonstrating, as appropriate, technical and material innovation, aesthetic merit, harmony with the environment, or successful community participation. Each year, only one bridge project worldwide is selected for the award.
With a total length of 2.44 kilometers and a width of 22.5 meters, the Pelješac Bridge in Croatia is a six-tower single plane cable-stayed bridge over the Mali Ston Bay of the Adriatic Sea. Bypassing the need to drive through a short strip of Bosnian and Herzegovina's territory when travelling between the northern and southern parts of Croatia, the bridge is of great significance for the economic and social development of the country.
