The launch ceremony for the ECRL Manpower Recruitment for Operation and Maintenance & the East Coast Rail Link Industrial Skills Training Programme (PLKI-ECRL) was recently held in Kuala Lumpur.
As part of the PLKI-ECRL, 210 Malaysian trainees will be sent this year to the Liuzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College in China for a one-year intensive training program.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized in his address that the program will equip young Malaysians with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in railway operations, paving the way for broader and more stable career prospects.
Stretching 665 kilometers, the ECRL is more than just a modern, advanced, and efficient transport system—it is also set to become a catalyst for economic growth along its route. The project is currently 80% complete, with the breakthrough of the Genting Tunnel's tunnel boring machine reaching 19 kilometers—a major milestone in the construction.
East Coast Rail Link Industrial Skills Training Programme (PLKI-ECRL):
Launched in September 2017, the program aims to train 5,000 Malaysian professionals in railway construction and operations—1,800 during the construction phase and 3,200 during the operations and maintenance phase. By the end of 2024, a total of 1,501 individuals will have completed the training.
