Smart greenhouses contributes to Jiangsu's rural revitalization
In Wujiang, Suzhou, there is a transparent glass greenhouse with a total construction area of about 4,800 square meters. This is an environmentally friendly, efficient and ecologically complementary smart greenhouse. It is a unique aquaponics symbiosis system created by CCCC under the Yangtze River DeltaEco-Green Integrated Development Project, with the aim of helping the revitalization and construction of local villages.
In this greenhouse, there is no need to change water for fish, and vegetables are grown without fertilization. The aquaculture water is transferred to the hydroponic planting tank, and the fish and shrimp excrement is separated and filtered, and then sent to the plant farm area to become fertilizer. Finally, a small ecosystem of aquaponics is formed.
The equipment in the greenhouse can perform all-weather intelligent automatic adjustment for the environment here. The greenhouse is equipped with 102 geothermal wells with a depth of 100 meters and a diameter of 13 mm, and with ground source heat pump green energy-saving heating technology equipment. In summer, the unit can be used to store heat underground, and in winter, the heat pump can be transferred out for heating.
The large fan on the greenhouse’s roof is a negative pressure fan, and an artifact for cooling in summer. It blows out the hot air in the shed from one side of the shed. Under the action of physical pressure, the other side of the shed inhales the outdoor air cooled by the water curtain, thereby reducing the overall temperature.
There are also different cultivation techniques for different crops, including mobile seedbeds and hydroponic seedbeds. The mobile seedbed is equipped with a mobile automatic sprinkler system, which saves manpower and makes soil cultivation easier. There are also hydroponic seedbeds that directly add nutrients needed for crop growth to the culture solution, thus shortening the growth cycle and improving the crop’s taste.

The aquaculture is equipped with Israeli high-density fish farming equipment, which performs circulating filtration and cleaning of the aquaculture pond, improves the water quality and increases oxygen. Such technology realizes the cultivation of more fish in small ponds, and effectively improves the amount of aquaculture and the growth capacity. The equipment can also be used as a factory "seedling" workshop to provide high-quality fry all year round for farmers in surrounding earth ponds.
The smart greenhouse has now entered the trial operation stage. It now has 800 square meters of hydroponic seedbeds and mobile seedbeds for cultivating crops, 20 aquaculture ponds, and is expected to achieve an annual output of 50 tons of fish.
