Living in harmony with the Malayan tapir
Green construction has been a guiding principle throughout the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project of Malaysia. In the early design stage, CCCC carried out in-depth ecological surveys in the rainforest and created detailed ecological maps to steer the railway away from environmentally sensitive areas. These efforts reduced the number of forest reserves the line passes through from 35 to 13 and cut the project's ecological footprint by 89.2 percent. During construction, the project also introduced more than 20 wildlife crossings and set up dedicated safety monitoring measures to help safeguard the habitats of rare species, including the Malayan tapir, the Malayan tiger, and hornbill.
