Ghana Tema New Container Terminal project provides important spawning ground for sea turtles
Located on the Gulf of Guinea, the construction zone of Ghana's Tema New Container Terminal project is a key nesting site for sea turtles. To minimize the project's environmental impact, the project team set up a sea turtle conservation and hatchery center along the beach, partnered with the Ghana Wildlife Society to establish dedicated patrol teams, and introduced specialized equipment to protect sea turtles and other marine wildlife. By the time the project was completed, 17,087 sea turtles had been successfully hatched and released into the ocean, underscoring the project's strong ecological and social impact.
