Karakoram Highway Phase II
The Karakoram Highway, also known as the "China-Pakistan Friendship Highway", starts from Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, and stretches through the Karakoram, Hindukush, and Himalayan mountain ranges to reach the northern Pakistani town of Thakot. The Karakoram Highway Phase II (Havelian-Thakot Section), spanning 118 kilometers, was opened to traffic in July 2020.
As a flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the Karakoram Highway Phase II significantly enhances the transportation conditions and service levels of land routes between China and Pakistan, greatly promoting economic development along the route and in northern Pakistan, thus facilitating connectivity between China and Pakistan.
