Maldives-China Friendship Bridge

The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, connecting the Maldivian capital, Male, with Male Valona International Airport and Hulhumale Island, spans a total length of 2 kilometers with four lanes in both directions. It was officially opened to traffic on August 30, 2018.
This bridge construction marks a pioneering effort in building sea bridges over open-ocean environments with exposed coral reefs. Its completion has significantly improved transportation between the connected islands, thereby boosting regional economic development in Male. Recognizing its excellence, the project received the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize (overseas projects).
