The Danjiangkou Reservoir Bridge, part of the Shiyan-Xichuan Expressway, has been honored with the 2024 Large Road And Rail Bridges Award by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). The award ceremony was recently held in Zurich, Switzerland.
Founded in 1929, IABSE is one of the most influential global organizations in the fields of bridge and structural engineering. Its annual awards recognize outstanding projects in infrastructure development, including bridges and buildings.
Spanning a total length of 1,076 meters with a main span of 760 meters, the Danjiangkou Reservoir Bridge is the world's longest earth-anchored composite cable-stayed bridge. The bridge was completed in January 2023.
The project employed innovative steel–UHPC light composite girder, addressing challenges like fatigue cracking of steel deck panels and the susceptibility of pavement to damage. Additionally, the closure section utilized a unique connection device, significantly enhancing the bridge's operational reliability and lifespan. These advancements provide valuable insights for the industry.
