China-Laos Railway

  • On December 3, 2021, the China-Laos Railway is opened to traffic.

According to the design requirements, the construction sewage of the Yuxi-Maohan section has carried out national level discharge standards, and all discharged water must have no impact on sensitive waters and be able to be reutilized. However, the wastewater generated from the tunnel boring was dim yellow in addition to a large amount of floating flocs, and the discharged. After water quality testing, we found that too much suspended matter in the water led to serious water pollution. The project team upgraded all 13 sets of sedimentation facilities along the route from three to six levels, and seven levels of sedimentation tanks was added to the Jingzhai Tunnel with the largest amount of water. In addition, geotextiles and at least two water filterings were added to the diversion ditch downstream of the sedimentation tanks in each tunnel. Reducing the flow velocity to filter impurities, playing a good role in assisting the filtration of suspended matter.
Dust control is also a top priority for eco-friendly construction. Under the influence of tropical monsoons, Xishuangbanna has a dry season from November to April every year, and the dust problem is serious. The project department have 8 large sprinkler trucks to contain dust pollution construction road, and placed pumping pipelines and sprinklers in 9 villages along the route to contain dust pollution at all times.
In addition, the project team also actively carried out green construction. It integrated the Yuxi-Maohan section into the plant kingdom of Xishuangbanna, and used "yellow, red and green" as the basic colors, to create a beautiful landscape.

The China-Laos Railway starts from Kunming, Yunnan Province in the north to Vientiane, the capital of Laos in the south, with a total length of about 1,035 kilometers, consisting of the Kunming-Yuxi section and the Yuxi-Mohan section in China and the Boten–Vientiane section in Laos. The railroad is an important part of the central route of the Pan-Asian Railway Network and an electrified passenger and cargo railway.
The opening of the China-Laos Railway has ended the history of no trains in Pu'er and Xishuangbanna Prefecture. It only takes more than 3 hours to travel from Kunming to Jinghong, Xishuangbanna Prefecture and people can travel to Vientiane, Laos in one day by train. It will provide convenient and efficient travel experience for the people of the two countries, and is of great significance to boosting economic and social development of the regions along the route.
