On October 11, 2019, the Moracica Bridge of the Montenegro North-South Expressway is closed up.
The project cuts through the Tara River Canyon and the Moracha River, a main stream in Montenegro, and the environmental requirements along the route are extremely high. The project is committed to making this economic "artery" of Montenegro an eco-friendly road.
The impact on the asphalt road by rainwater and the possible leakage of chemicals from freight vehicles will lead to contamination of the road runoff water. In order to prevent these problems and protect the local environment and water resources, the project adopted an eco-friendly drainage design—a closed drainage system to separate the polluted road water from the clean surface water, to collect and treat the polluted water before discharge.
More than 9 oil- water separators were set up according to the topography and design flow, and clean surface water will be discharged directly through the ditches and culverts. The project department is also responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the oil- water separators. The entire enclosed drainage system is embedded in the roadbed and does not affect the appearance of the highway.
The Montenegro North-South Expressway project is about 180 kilometers long. Being the first expressway in Montenegro, the expressway connects the southern port city of Bar and the northern city of Bogliare, and is an important passage from Montenegro to the European interior. The construction from Smokovac to Mateshevo undertaken by CRBC is the most difficult section of the entire Montenegro North-South Expressway, with a total length of about 41 kilometers and a bridge-to-tunnel ratio of about 60%. The section is the most difficult part of the project. The section was opened to traffic in mid-July 2022, making many records on rigid-frame bridge construction in the Balkans.
