Ecological protection and restoration in alpine and high-altitude areas

  • On August 21, 2021, the Naqu-Yangbajing section of the Beijing–Lhasa Expressway is opened to traffic.

Taking the construction of the Beijing–Lhasa Expressway as an opportunity, CCCC project team has made research and development on native vegetation cultivation and engineering application technologies in alpine areas, through the establishment of a cultivation base for native plants in alpine and high-altitude areas, screening, cultivation and industrial cultivation of plateau native plants to promote ecological protection and restoration in alpine and high-altitude areas. More than 40 acres of native plant cultivation bases in high-altitude and alpine regions have been built, and more than 10 species of native herbs and shrubs have been cultivated, achieving a good application demonstration effect in the Yangbajing-Lhasa section of the Qinghai-Tibet Expressway.

 

On August 21, 2021, the Naqu-Yangbajing section of the Beijing–Lhasa Expressway was opened to traffic and so that the 295-kilometer the Naqu-Lhasa section of the Beijing–Lhasa Expressway was opened to traffic. After the opening, the driving time from Lhasa to Naqu will be shortened from more than 6 hours to 3 hours.
