With the container ship "Micronesian Pride" berthing, Aiwo Wharf in Nauru built by CHEC, a subsidiary of CCCC, was opened for trial operation. Reagan Winson ALIKLIK, Minister of RONPhos of Nauru, Russ KUN, Minister For Nauru Port Authority, Michael Nye, CEO of Nauru Maritime and Port Authority and others attended the event.
During the construction period, the project team overcame the adverse factors such as lack of access to transportation and the epidemic, solved many construction problems and successfully completed the task.
The trial operation of the port marks the end of the history that Nauru's import and export goods rely on sea transfer, which will greatly improve the port's throughput and effectively promote the trade between Nauru and neighboring countries, and boost local social and economic development.
The upgrade project includes a new 160-meter-long wharf and a 143-meter-long revetment, excavation, roads, container yards and house construction including warehouses, office buildings and security rooms, as well as water, electricity and communication systems and other ancillary works.
