Recently, CCCC-invested and Third Highway Engineering-built Yuli-Qiemo Highway in Urumqi-Yuli Highway PPP project in Xinjiang Urumqi Autonomous Region passed the acceptance check.
With a total length of 1,305 kilometers, the project is composed of five parts including Urumqi-Yuli, Yuli-35 Regiment, 35 Regiment-Ruoqiang, Yitimbulak-Ruoqiang, and Yuli-Qiemo sections. The 334-km-long Yuli-Qiemo Highway crosses the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert with a length of 307 kilometers, and it is the longest desert highway under construction in the world with the largest shifting range of sand dunes, the severest construction conditions, and the greatest construction difficulty.
After the opening-to-traffic of the project, the travel time between Qiemo County and Korla City will be shortened from 13 hours to 6 hours, effectively improving transportation conditions for local people and helping to sell agricultural products. In addition, the highway crosses an area with large oil and gas reserves in the Tarim Basin, and it will strongly support future oil and gas exploration, development, and transportation and foster economic and social development of southern Xinjiang.
